Weaponry of the Wild West

It is said that the West was won at the barrel of a Colt .45 Peacemaker. It probably took a little more that that, but there is no denying that firearms played a significant role in taming the wilds of the Rocky Mountains.

Our museum plays host to the Waples Family Historic Gun Collection. Here, we have a display of over 100 historic firearms and accessories that were commonly used by trappers, mountain men, natives, U.S. Calvary, cattlemen, hunters, and homesteaders.

In addition, there is a display of over 200 stone arrowheads from prehistoric era through the nineteenth century. These projectiles were collected from numerous surrounding areas in the Beartooth-Absaroka Mountain Range.
