Taken from the introduction

“…Overhearing bits and pieces of conversations between veteran skiers recalling the early days of Red Lodge Mountain really piqued our interest in documenting the history. In that process we discovered that there was more to skiing in Red Lodge than just Red Lodge Mountain.

We collected and scanned over 300 photos, conducted, recorded, and transcribed over 30 interviews, and poured over years of newspaper articles…It became apparent that a great number of people through the years have had personal connection with skiing in Red Lodge…

Sliding on snow has changed a lot since the 1930s, but the memories of crystal-clear, blue-sky days when the temperature is just right, the snow is deep, and the wind is somewhere else have not changed.

For all of us, for whatever the reasons, have been making history by doing what we love most. We are delighted to bring you some of the history of Skiing Red Lodge.”
