RED STAR TIPI

The Carbon County Historical Society and Museum is pleased to present for sale a new one-of-a-kind work of art by renowned artist Kevin Red Star. Using the intensely brilliant colors for which he is highly regarded as today’s premier plains artist, Kevin Red Star has transformed a traditional Crow-style Tipi into an artistic tour de force. Forty-four images in the artist’s unique and colorful style have produced a work of art that represents both Crow Indian tradition and modern artistry.

The Red Star Tipi is being offered for sale at a price of $50,000. Because Mr. Red Star desires to enhance the Carbon County Historical Society’s ongoing efforts to preserve and display the history of our town, county and region, he is generously endowing the Society with half of the sale’s proceeds.

This unique new work of art stands 14 feet high at the top of the canvas. Its wood poles are 32 feet in length and its base circumference is 16 feet. Properly erected in Crow style, it is slightly oval in shape. The tipi’s exterior canvas and images have been thoroughly weatherproofed, allowing it to be displayed out of doors. It can also be erected on a wooden platform inside any room of sufficient height.

Exceptional photos of the Red Star Tipi were taken by Mervin Coleman of the Coleman Studios in Red Lodge when the Tipi was set-up in a natural environment on Carbon County’s Switchback Ranch. Mr. Coleman has generously donated his professional services to the project.

From Mr. Coleman’s photos, the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum has produced limited edition prints. This set of one hundred 24 x 36 inch high-resolution photographs will be numbered and signed by the artist, and offered for sale at the Red Star Gallery and the Carbon County Museum at $500 each, plus shipping and handling.

The Museum will also sell posters bearing the Tipi’s image. Sized at 23 x 35 inches, the poster will be sold unsigned for $9.95 or signed by both Mr. Red Star and Mr. Coleman for $49.95. Notecards are also available or Click Here to view all items.
